Course Content

The course is an enjoyable and practical approach to Drama. Throughout the course students will complete three individual units of work.

  • Unit 1 - From page to stage.
  • Unit 2 - Drama in the making.
  • Unit 3 - From concept to creation.

Students will improve their performance skills by creating new and original pieces of theatre as well as exploring existing play scripts and performing them.  Throughout the course students are expected to meet the assessment criteria by displaying skills as a performer, director, deviser and designer.

Students should have an interest in performing and should enjoy working in a team. No prior knowledge of Drama is necessary.

Final Assessments

Coursework - 60%

Unit 1 and 2 are both practical in their nature. Using a variety of play scripts and stimuli students create and perform interesting and exciting pieces of theatre. In a controlled environment students are assessed on their individual performances and produce written portfolios evaluating and explaining their work.

Examination - 40%

Unit 3 is an externally assessed examination. Students will take part in a series of workshops exploring the functions of deviser, designer, director and performer. At the end of the unit, candidates will undertake a practical examination, comprising a preparation/rehearsal period and a practical outcome. Candidates will be assessed on their performance/presentation and their planning, and working record.
